How can physical activity in everyday life be made even easier, more sociable and enjoyable, even on hot days? This is precisely the question addressed by the Mall Walking Austria research project, which is being carried out in collaboration with the University for Continuing Education Krems and Westfield Shopping City Süd. Heatwaves, in particular, pose challenges for many older people: high temperatures, direct sunlight and unsafe paths make it difficult to be active and socialise. The air-conditioned, accessible walkways at Westfield Shopping City Süd offer ideal conditions for this and could, in future, be used as a venue for group exercise and socialising.
The aim of this research project is to develop a new exercise programme for people aged 60 and over, in collaboration with the very people it is intended for. We are therefore looking for enthusiastic participants aged 60 and over who would like to share their experiences, wishes and ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. No prior knowledge or sporting ability is required – every opinion counts. Participation is free of charge; drinks and light refreshments will be provided.

🗓️ 13 July, 30 July and 17 August 2026
⏰ 9.30 am to 11.30 am on each date
📍 Business Lounge, Westfield Shopping City Süd
☕ Meeting point: Café Rauwolf
As places are limited, please register in advance. Attending all three sessions is ideal, but not a requirement; you can join at any time.
Relatives and professionals are also welcome to get involved
In addition to the ideas workshops for people aged 60 and over, relatives and professionals are also warmly invited to contribute. Supplementary online idea workshops are planned for them. Their perspectives will help to ensure that the future exercise programme is suitable for everyday use, safe and successful in the long term. If you are interested, the project team would be delighted to hear from you.
You can find all the information on registration and further details about the project here and on the “Mall Walking Austria” website.
